We’ve all been there. You step out of a steaming hot shower, reach for the mirror to shave or do your makeup, and you’re staring at a wall of white fog. Then comes the annoying part: wiping it with a towel and leaving those weird streaks behind. It’s a small thing, but it’s a daily annoyance. That’s why we use infrared (IR) heating. Instead of trying to warm up the entire room—which takes forever—these heaters send energy straight into the glass. It’s a much smarter way to handle the problem. How it actually works We use thin-film or quartz elements that heat up fast. When you hit a button on your app, the glass warms up just enough to stay above the “dew point.” Basically, the water vapor just doesn’t stand a chance of sticking to the mirror. Because the heat is focused right on the back of the glass, you aren’t wasting electricity heating the air around you. It just works. Making it “Smart” The gear is simple: an IR heating pad connected to a smart relay. We make sure the relays can handle the power load so you don’t have to worry about your breakers tripping. The best part? You can set up “Scenes.” Imagine your shower valve opens, and the mirror starts warming up automatically. By the time you’ve turned off the water and grabbed your towel, the fog is gone. Just a heads-up: it’s not instant magic. It usually takes about 30 to 90 seconds for the glass to get warm enough to clear the mist. Finding the sweet spot You might think “more heat equals faster clearing,” but that’s where things get risky. If you crank the wattage too high, you can actually stress the glass. In worst-case scenarios, you could peel the reflective coating or even crack the mirror. We aim for a surface temperature of around 40-50°C. It’s plenty of heat to kill the fog, but it won’t burn your hand if you lean in close to the mirror. It’s all about that balance.
